Illustration Concentration
- Select the above graphic, print and make copies for each student.
- Provide 3 - 9 reveiw vocabulary words depending on student ability. These may be posted on a board, overhead or list.
- Direct students to copy each word on the top left space of each box. Then write the vowel pattern (pattern mark) the word in the small space at the top right.
- Next draw a picture of the word and recopy the word in the bottom space.
Grades may be taken for handwriting and comprehension. - After all students have completed the activity and pictures have been checked, cut apart each square and laminate then place all laminated squares in container.
- Students may now play "Concentration" by removing the squares, placing them face down in rows and then taking turns to turn 2 cards face up and see if the words match. If they do they keep the pair and continue their turn. If they do not match, they return the cards to the face down position and play moves to the next student.
- Student with the most matches wins.
Additional activities if appropriate for the students functioning level.
- After making all the matches possible allow students to create a funny oral story with the words they have in their pairs.
- Ask the students to put their pairs in ABC order
- Ask the students to check to see if any frostings such as ee=y, ing or ed may be added to their words.
