Directions
(May also be found in the Beginning Level Stevenson Manual)
- Print letters which have been presented on cards, in duplicate or triplicate.
- On several of the cards, place a star at the bottom.
- Place the cards face down between you and the student.
- Student turns over the top card and gives the sound of the letter. When the student is correct, he keeps the card. If the student makes an error, the card goes to the teacher.
- The teacher draws the next card, if there is no star; the teacher gives the sound of the letter. If there is a star, the teacher feigns disappointment at having the turn over the card to the student.
- Now the student must give the sound of the letter. If the student produces the sound correctly, he also wins all previous cards held by the teacher.
- If he fails, the teacher may take the card and all of the student's previous cards. Of course, the student wins most of the time.
- Continue to add additional letters and eventually words. Keep in mind that you will need to also add additional stars to the cards. Show real enthusiasm while playing the game and remind the student that you are always trying to win back your cards if he/she is not careful.
